1955 Kapi JIP Convertible
Lot No. 457
Sold for $ 8,500
This vehicle, made in Spain with steel body construction, was patterned after the American Jeep. Infantry captain Frederico Saldana built a series of extremely compact, minimalist automobiles in 1950 near Barcelona. The first attempt at micro transportation was called the Kapiscooter, which was followed by the JIP. Very few JIPs were produced and fewer survive. This JIP’s 8.5-hp pull-start engine was sourced from Hispano-Villiers; backed by a three-speed transmission, the little car can achieve a 40-mph top speed.
