1954 Chevrolet Corvette
Lot No. 542
Sold for $ 80,300
The 1954 Corvette was built at a newly renovated facility located in St. Louis, Missouri. This model year was crucial in the survival of the car and its ongoing development. Being a "sports car" without a manual transmission caused the car to have somewhat of an identity crisis compared with competing cars of the era. Today these cars are firmly defined as true collectibles; this example is one of the best you may possibly find.
The early Corvette is known for its sensational style, outstanding performance and its low center of gravity producing a fine-handling machine. The Corvette has a 235-cid, 155-hp six-cylinder engine that produced 155 horsepower and is mated to a Powerglide, two-speed automatic transmission; dual exhaust was also standard on this model. Three new exterior colors were introduced in 1954: Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red and Black.
Chevrolet only produced four Black Corvette copies in 1954; this outstanding car is one of the four. It has recently undergone a complete frame-off restoration in a correct and well-executed manner; only 78 miles have been put on it since this procedure was completed. The car is finished with a red interior and tan convertible top; the level of craftsmanship in the upholstery work is unmistakable. Optional heater and AM radio are included; other equipment includes turn signals, wide-whitewall tires, courtesy lights, parking brake alarm and windshield washer.
The VIN on this desirable piece of early Corvette history is E54S002767.
